Team Policies

Tsunami Relay Policy

"Tsunami’s policy towards relays is the four (4) fastest swimmers make the “A” relay for Free and/or Medley. The next four (4) fastest make the “B” relay and so on. Calculation of a swimmer’s fastest times are based upon times obtained in individual events.

The coaching staff reserves the right to make the determination based upon splits obtained in a relay. Factors such as attitude of the swimmer, effort in practice as well as attendance of the swimmer(s) in question are also factored into the decision.

If the said relay is for Regional Great Lakes Zone meet or YMCA Nationals, we will ask that the swimmer in the 5th position attend as an alternate. Alternates have the right to warm up with the Zone or National team and will obtain a deck pass."

Tsunami USA Swimming Policy

“Among our top priorities as a swim club is building and maintaining a strong “team first” culture. Our Club motto of “WE not ME” is what drives this thriving culture. We are a YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) affiliated swim club, and we participate in Y-USA sanctioned meets. We currently do not participate in USA Swimming nor currently do we have a USA swimming component attached to our swim club.

Therefore, we discourage outside participation in USA Swimming during the Y-USA swim season.  Doing so has the potential to distract swimmers from their responsibilities to the YMCA Tsunami Swim Club team members as well as their coaches. If a parent and/or swimmer feels strongly about pursuing USA Swimming, he or she are encouraged to discuss this possibility with the head coach prior to making a commitment. We expect open and honest communication in order to foster a “WE not ME” culture of respect.”

Tsunami Code of Conduct

As a team we place a very strong emphasis on Responsibility, Accountability and Respect.  Any swimmer who disrupts a practice or a meet, or is disruptive in the wellness center during drylands, damages the property of others, or threatens, intimidates, or injures others will be removed and parent(s) contacted. A second incident, of any sort, will be cause for dismissal from the team. Sportsmanship, teamwork and courtesy are fundamental to the YMCA competitive swimming program. These qualities are rooted in the YMCA core values of: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Each swimmer and parent will be required to read over each agreement with a parent/guardian and sign them.  Your coaches will instruct you when to bring them into practice with you.
