Information about the Tsunami College Seminar
Hi all!
I know there are quite a few things going on all at once! Please read carefully:
We initially scheduled the College Seminar for Jan. 25th in the afternoon at the Northeast YMCA but we were made aware of the JCPS high school swim meet that morning.
Lindsey Wilson College and our guest speaker are still able to come that day so we will go ahead and hold the talk as initially scheduled.
If this is an issue to anyone interested in attending, please email me so we may determine if this weekend will work or not. The kids are encouraged and should attend especially 8th graders to high school seniors.
You may have the kids write down some questions such as: What questions do you have about swimming in college? How do/would I get recruited? Where are my times and how does the college coach look at them? CAN I swim in College swimming if I swim at a YMCA?
Looking over times from the conference Lindsey Wilson swims in, we felt like our kids would and could succeed at this level of college swimming. This is certainly not to say that a higher level of college swimming couldn't be achieved.
We scheduled an hour for the talk with questions. We also have a guest speaker coming who has been through the college recruitment process and swam in college to briefly speak about his experiences and answer any questions.
Please RSVP to me so we can have an idea as to how may may attend.
In the meantime, you are encouraged to check out our College Recruiting page on our website!
More about Lindsey Wilson:
"Lindsey Wilson College is a small, private, liberal arts college in rural Kentucky. We are an NAIA school, which is separate from the NCAA. We are similar to a DII school or small DI in terms of what we offer athletically (including scholarships) and are more similar to a DIII school in terms of our academics. For the past 5 years LWC athletics has been ranked in the top 5 athletic programs in the country. In fact, 3 years ago we won the award for having the #1 athletic program in the NAIA and the past two years we have come in second place. In order to achieve this, all of our athletic program have had to be nationally ranked. We take athletics seriously here, but we also take pride in our academic achievements (which are many). For the past 10 years that we've had a varsity swim team, our men's program has been in the top 10 in the country 7 times. Last season we had our highest national placement, earning 7th place. Our women have finished in the top 5 in the NAIA 2 times. We offer both academic and athletic scholarships. To learn more about LWC, feel free to check out our website at
