October for Tsunami!
October was a busy month for the Tsunami Swim Club at the Northeast Family YMCA as we hosted two home meets for the first time ever since joining a YMCA of the USA sanctioned swim league Kentucky YMCA Central Swim League(KYCSL). On October 14th, we hosted a home meet at the University of Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Oldham County branch as well as Limestone YMCA out of Maysville, Ky participated. It was a huge success! We had 152 swimmers from Tsunami swim and we had over 50 Tsunami parents volunteer their time to help make the meet a success for the swimmers.
We also hosted the 10th Annual Virtual swim meet on October 28th at the Mary T. Meager Aquatics center verses the Beaumont YMCA from Lexington, KY. We had 154 swimmers compete in this meet. The Virtual meet is part of the National YMCA of the USA Completive Swimming and Diving where swim teams compete locally but all results are sent to the National YMCA Swimming and Diving and each swimmer is scored nationally in each swimming event. This meet was also a huge success for the swimmers and we had over 50 Tsunami parents volunteer their time.
Tsunami had 15 12&Over volunteers help with the Annual Northeast branch spooky movie and pumpkin swim on October 12th. Coach Shannon Venable helped Mandee organize this wonderful event for the community. Tsunami has 29 swimmers in our developmental level of swim team called Jr. Competitor. This level of our swim team provides a gap between swim lessons and swim team. Each evening we routinely have three to four older swimmers from our most advanced practice groups volunteer their time to help teach the Jr. Competitor swimmers. One swimmer that practices during the 4:30pm swim group, stays at the YMCA to help with the 7:15pm developmental group one night a week. We are so excited to have such caring older swimmers on our team.
WE are a TEAM. WE are a COMMUNITY. WE ARE Tsunami!
WE not ME!
